PG-8X: Grab this excellent little synth VST here, or use whatever you have already; 1. A decent kick is the backbone of your track so let’s build this first. Usually, when making a kick, I’d go for a sine or a filtered triangle with some pitch envelope for the transient but PG-8X doesn’t have either of these oscillators. 'Massive synthwave vibes from this synth VST plugin. It's a faithful emulation of the classic Roland JX-8P synth, taking interface cues from the optional PG-800 hardware controller. You can hear a few patches found on the internet. The PG8X VST synth plugin can load in original JX-8P patches over sysex. PG-8X is inspired by the Roland JX-8P with the PG-800 programmer. The synth architecture is a standard 2-oscillator Filter VCA design. These elements can be modulated by a common LFO and one of two ENVELOPEs. The PG-8X is patch compatible with the JX-8P and can read and write JX-8P Sysex data. Up to 12 voice polyphony. Did fresh install of Unify 1.1.2. On closer inspection of the PlugInGuru Unify VST folder there was no PG-8X folder. Luckily, I had a copy of the PG-8X folder. Was the PG-8X vst package left out of Unify 1.1.2 installation? Also, BlueARP is still a previous version.

'Several viewers want to know how to load preset sounds into the PG-8X VST plugin synth emulating the classic Roland JX-8P. This is because when you first load up the PG8X in your DAW, the plugin's preset banks are empty which can throw off even the most experienced producer. This is why I put up this quick tutorial.

Ableton Live 10 Wavetable electro w/ PG8X & OP-X synths: Dirt Rally
Published on Jul 4, 2019 Synth & Sundry
'Muscular synth rally electro courtesy of Ableton Live 10 and its wavetable digital synth. Drums were processed by Drum Buss effect and additional synth sounds provided by two instances of the magnificent PG8X and extremely convincing OP-X Pro vst.
The Wavetable synth (new to Live 10) provides the backbone droney chord of the track. It has two oscillator slots, each capable of holding a wild variety of wavetables old and new. In this track, LFO 1 sweeps through both of the wavetables but in opposite directions thanks to the bipolar control on the mod matrix that is crucial to the function of this new synth.
The OP-X Pro in this case is on synth bass duty and its sound is dirtied up a fair amount by the Pedal effect that is native to Ableton Suite edition (and new to the Live 10 update). Meanwhile the PG8X instances share lead and classic polysynth duties because we can't get enough of that Natural patch sound.
All the melodies were played in with a DSI Prophet Rev2 keyboard as a MIDI controller. The exquisite aftertouch response that this FATAR keybed affords makes it a joy to play expressively.
Music Track: 'Tōge Wave Racing' by the Synth & Sundry Torque Bros (Alpicat and Pinwale Sounds)
Video footage from Codemasters' Dirt Rally video game. Racing the legendary Subaru Impreza WRC through intense rain in the Wales rally stage. The footage was recorded before the track but we were both extremely surprised and pleased that it fit this melodic electro track so well.'
