Jan 08, 2015 There are several free stretch VSTs. Some are too extreme for my needs and are more designed for electronica or something. I use this occasionally, as it doesn't stretch in multiples of 100%: tcStretch If you want that 100,000 times stretch, then this: STRETCHA And if you use 64 bit Sonar on a MAC, then maybe this: Paraphrasis by Virtual Analogy. Akaizer is a freeware application for Windows / macOS / Linux which can time stretch (and/or pitch shift) any WAVE or AIFF sound file in the style of the 'cyclic' time stretch which featured on old Akai sound samplers, like the S950 / S1000 / S2000 / S3000 series. This is ideal for DAW-based music producers who want that classic metallic-sounding effect, as used in many old school Hardcore. In this Ableton tutorial, I explain the strengths and weaknesses of all the Ableton warping/time stretching algorithms along with some shortcut keys to help.

TimeStretch Player is a free online audio player that allows you to loop, speed up, slow down and pitch shift sections of an audio file. Free vst warm strings.
This makes it a great tool for practicing or transcribing music.
It is developed by Jonas Wagner.You can read more about it in this blog post.
Usage
To get started open a audio file.The supported file types depend on your browser but mp3 and ogg should generally work.You can do this by clicking on 'Open Track' or dragging and dropping a file onto the page.On Android you need to select an App that can provide an audio file for instance google drive.
After you have selected the file time stretch player will need a few seconds to process it.Once it's done it will display you the waveform of the track. You are now ready.

To play the track you can simply press the play button or hit the space key on your keyboard.To jump to a specific location either drag the yellow play head with your mouse or click on location in the wave form.
To change the speed of the playback without affecting the pitch simply turn the stretch dial.The more stretch, the slower the playback will be.
If you want to shift the pitch of the track turn the pitch dial.This will change the pitch in semitone increments.For finer adjustments you can use the tune dial which changes the pitch in cents.
To loop a region of the track enable loop mode by clicking on the loop( loop ) button.To select the start and endpoints of the loop you can drag the handles atthe edge of the waveform display.Another way to select the loop endpoints is to use the [ and ] buttonswhich will set the endpoint to the current playback position.
The player will remember the settings you used for every file.This is helpful for practicing but if you don't like this behavior youcan also turn it off in the settings.

FAQ
What file types are supported?
That depends on your browser. MP3 seems to be decoded by most browsers.Support for MP4, and OGG depends on the browser. FLAC seems to be generally unsupported.There is a table that lists the supported by file types on developer.mozilla.org.
What other similar software can you recommend?
I also wrote a similar tool for linux called play it slowly.
I get a DECODING ERROR what does this mean?
It means that your browser could not decode the audio file selected,likely because the file type or codec is not supported.
Why does the player stutter when it is running in the background?
Browsers throttle websites that are running in the background to try to save power.This can interfere with playback.
Which browsers/devices are supported/recommended?
I develop using Google Chrome and Firefoxso those are the browsers that I recommend.
If you are using Android I suggest chrome, firefox seems to be too slow on Android.
Safari on a mac works too but is in my expirience more buggy.
Safari on iOS does not allow you to open audio files so while it might work in theoryit's practically useless.
Internet Explorer is not supported. Microsoft Edge should work but I didn't have a chance to verify that so far.
Are my songs uploaded to your server?
No! I respect your privacy. All of your songs stay on your computer.
Can I use this app offline?
Yes you can if you are using a modern web browser like firefox or chrome.
Offline mode is enabled. You can open this application even if you are offline.Offline mode is not working with your current setup.
Can I download the timestreched audio?
Yes you can do that using the save menu item in the top bar.

You can find my contact details on 29a.ch/about.Xenakios has released PaulXStretch, a freeware time-stretching VST and AU plugin based on the PaulStretch extreme time-stretching algorithm.
PaulStretch is the most popular third-party freeware tool for audio time-stretching, capable of delivering extreme changes in sample speed/tempo without affecting the pitch. Of course, some amount of time-stretching distortion is always present, but this is often used as a creative effect. The software’s single drawback is the fact that it can’t be used within a digital audio workstation because it isn’t available as a VST or Audio Unit plugin. As a result, the users need to take the offline workflow route which defaults to applying the time-stretching algorithm in a separate app (Paul’s Extreme Time Stretch) and then importing the processed audio file back into the DAW. This all changes now with the release of PaulXStretch.
Free Time Stretch Vst Plugin
The VST/AU plugin version of PaulStretch loads like any other virtual effect and provides instant results. The workflow is quite simple. Load it as an insert effect on an audio channel, press the Capture button to record a portion of the audio into PaulXStretch’s internal buffer, and make sure to turn off Capture mode when you’re done. From there, you can isolate any part of the recorded audio with the sample length slider and proceed with the actual time-stretching of the content. The control scheme is the same as in the standalone version of PaulStretch and allows the user to go quite a bit into detail with audio processing. Whereas some of the advanced functionality is not for the faint of heart, the most important actions like time-stretching and pitch shifting are easy to pull off with just a couple of clicks.
Performance-wise, PaulXStretch does a pretty good job even in this relatively early phase of development. The author is releasing new versions on a regular basis, fixing bugs and improving the overall user experience. As far as freeware time-stretching VST plugins go, PaulXStretch is easily the best one you can download right now. It currently works in 64-bit plugin hosts on Windows and macOS, with a Linux version expected for release later on. Support for 32-bit digital audio workstations is not planned.
